Value Added Services
by John Kozak
During this exceptionally competitive business environment, many organizations are seeking ways to do more with less in an effort to be more profitable. Your security services contract could yield many benefits not previously known to your firm, providing a win-win for your company as well as the security firm providing the service.
Security firms spend an inordinate amount of time recruiting personnel to assign to the various client locations they service. There is a significant investment involved with advertising, interviewing, drug screening and performing background checks on the applicants seeking work. Once they have passed this process and are working at a client site, it is in everyone’s best interest that the security officer be engaged in their work to reduce the level of turnover the industry is known for.
Tasking security personnel with additional services to perform while on duty achieves several objectives. First and foremost, the duties assigned will hopefully offer the client a savings by not having another agency or internal source complete the service. For instance, a common function SSC performs for our client’s is monthly fire extinguisher checks. By not having to contract with another vendor for this service, our clients save money on this monthly expense.
Secondly, the additional tasks will help to keep the security officer motivated and busy during their shift, reducing complacency and boredom which can happen frequently at various posts. Using the above example, a security officer can conduct these checks during his or her facility security tour, making the shift productive and the time go by quickly.
Lastly, the sense of fulfillment the security officer experiences will directly impact their job satisfaction level, reducing the turnover experienced at the client site. If the security officer believes he or she is contributing to the overall goals of the business they are servicing, they are much more apt to want to continue work at the facility and will be a much more productive officer.
In addition to the example used above, below is a sample of several other value-added services security officers could perform for you.
